Behind the Steam: The Making of Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends is a unreleased & unofficial documentary, which was meant to cover the history and production of the Model-Era of Thomas & Friends (1984-2008). The project was by TomsProps (Tom Jedski) from Twitter. It was later revealed that creation of a documentary was never intended, and that the whole thing was a cover-story so that Tom could obtain interviews from production-crew of the show, to add to his gate-keeping collection.

In 2019, Tom had expressed interest in making a documentary about the live-action era of Thomas & Friends from 1983-2008, The fan modeler and social-media user Gauge1Sodor came up with the title given to the project. The documentary was supposed to be released in 2020, but this was pushed back by TomsProps, and it was subsequently revealed that the entire project was a sham, and a front for Tom's gate-keeping initiatives.

- As of 2023, the documentary wasn't released years after the trailer, as TomsProps left social media at the end of 2022.
- According to FlyingPringle, that Tom has an interview clip of Steve Asquith about the 1983 testing of Thomas' O gauge before the production of Down the Mine pilot.
- The footage of season 10 blooper reel will be used in this documentary, the reels was seen in the private sector at Midlands Arts Centre, Birmingham.
- It is unknown how many interviews were conducted by the various living crews of the show by TomsProps.
