A list of Thomas related specials that were envisioned, but were ultimately cancelled before going into full production.
Shining Time Station Movie[]
Sometime in the mid-nineties, there were discussions for creating a Shining Time Station Film. Rick Siggelkow was involved in these talks before moving to the BBC in 1996. The plot would've involved J.B. King finally discovering Mr. Conductor, and inadvertently leading to Mr. Conductor being taken captive by an evil circus ringmaster, after a circus train arrived in Shining Time. Thomas and the other engines would've come to Shining Time and helped with his rescue. A circus girl would've become friends with the Shining Time kids, overcoming her fear of horses to become a stunt-rider, and in one scene, Schemer would've even been shot out of a Cannon. The film was cancelled for unknown reasons.
2009 Model Special[]
In a November 13th 2022 tweet ThomasTheorist confirmed that Simon Spencer told him about a scrapped model special for 2009 that he had written an outline for. The plot would've centered around Thomas somehow being put onto a ship at Brendam Docks and getting sent over to the Mainland, and subsequently trying to find his way back home. Meanwhile, he meets an Asian locomotive. The Mainland wouldn't have been depicted as England, but rather a generic foreign country, with some Asian inspirations. The special was ultimately cancelled because of the CGI-Switchover.
Untitled Toby Special[]
On a March 11th 2021 Tweet, Elliott Killck-Ward revealed how he had a phone-chat with Ian McCue in March 2019, discussing ideas for future special-length episodes (Similar in format to Thomas and the Royal Engine), one of these would've featured Toby as the main character, and would've had an unidentified returning character. The special was subsequently rejected, with McCue persuading Ward to turn it into a fan-project instead.

Cancelled Spinoffs[]
In the early 2000's several ideas for Spinoffs were discussed. These spinoffs were ultimately rejected in favor of Jack and the Pack. One idea was a spinoff revolving around non-rail characters, with Bertie, Trevor, Harold, and Terence as the main-characters. Another spinoff would've revolved around Thomas visiting Japan.
