Background Information

Television Series

In 2000, Diesel 10 was introduced in Thomas & The Magic Railroad, in which he was the main antagonist. Diesel 10 has been depicted as an evil diesel engine who wants domination over steam engines, manipulating, and bullying them along the way, with the help of his hydraulic claw that he has nicknamed "Pinchy". When the show transitioned into full CGI in 2009. Diesel 10 was absent until he made a return in the 2010 special Misty Island Rescue, and the subsequent special Day of the Diesels.

Although Diesel 10 is a completely fictional character, as a BR Class 42 carrying the number "D10" never existed, a BR Class 44 did carry this number however and its name was "Tryfan". It was scrapped at Derby Works during July 1978.

Gauge 1 Model

Diesel 10's main model throughout the series, his Gauge 1 Model was constructed for Thomas & The Magic Railroad, and appeared until the show switched to CGI in the thirteenth season. The model was constructed by heavily modifying a Märklin company engine's model, in order to create Diesel 10 and the other character's. His model used several remotes, one to move his eyes and wheels, and one to move his claw. In total 9 different face masks were constructed for Diesel 10.

Life Size Model

Diesel 10's life sized model was a real to life scale model of the top of Diesel 10's cab and claw. It was constructed for the scenes of Thomas and the Magic Railroad in which Junior or P.T. Boomer would be on the top of his cab, and the scene were Mr. Conductor was trapped in Pinchy. The Model acted as a green screen to create the illusion of Junior and P.T. Boomer sitting on Diesel 10.
