Edward, Gordon and Henry, retitled to Henry to the Rescue in American releases, is the fourth episode of the first season of Thomas & Friends. It was first aired in the UK on 16th October 1984.

Plot

Gordon is always out pulling the express, and believes that he is the only one who is strong enough to do so. One day, Gordon heads down the line, near the track were Henry lay bricked up in the tunnel. Henry now feels sorry for himself, wondering if the Fat Controller will ever give him a second chance, however He is unsure how to ask about being let out of the tunnel.

Gordon is about to whistle at Henry as he steams by, but instead ends up bursting his safety valve, and is thus forced to stop the train right in front of the tunnel. The Fat Controller, who was aboard Gordon's train, is annoyed at this, and complains about his dislike of bigger engines, for the fact that they are always breaking down.

Edward is sent to take Gordon's place, but is unable to move the train. Gordon suggests that the Fat Controller should led Henry out of the tunnel, to which he agrees to give Henry a second chance. Henry is released from the tunnel, and successfully pulls the express, with help from Edward. The Fat Controller holds his head out of the carriage window, in an attempt to wave at the engines, but due to the wind, his hat is blown into a nearby field, where it is promptly eaten by a goat. Edward and Henry keep going, until they manage to reach the station. The two engines help Gordon home on their way back to the sheds. Henry is rewarded with a brand new coat of paint for his efforts, and now realizes that it's silly to hide in a tunnel to keep his paint dry, and now asks his crew to wipe him down at the end of the days work.
