The Awdry Extravaganza 3 was the third Awdry Extravaganza event held by the Talyllyn Railway in July 2023. The tickets would be listed for preservation society members on the 8th of May and then for the general public on the 10th. All tickets are currently sold out. Because of this, the railway decided to start a competition for people who couldn't go called "The Awdry Diorama Challenge" on June the 3rd, a competition where people could submit photos of there own hand made, digitally made or hand drawn dioramas based on Railway Series illustrations. During the event Rusty's close-up model and some workman close-up figures, The Incline, 2 large scale slate trucks, Mr Percival's close up models, Skarloey's large scale clenched faces, the camera script for the 1953 Sad Story of Henry Broadcast (confirming the broadcast combined The Sad Story of Henry with Edward, Gordon and Henry during the broadcast) were all revealed at the exhibition during this event. As well as this, Barry The Rescue Engine, who was initially thought to be a tender engine, was revealed to being intended as a tank engine according to Veronica Chambers. A slightly higher quality version of the 1953 James photo was also shown of at this event.
Trivia[]
- Sam Wilkinson at the previous Awdry Extravaganza, expressed interest in exhibiting the clean Rheneas model from "Wash Behind Your Buffers" at this event, fitted with it's own dedicated chassis (as in the episode it recycled the chassis of the main large scale model). This never came to fruition however.
- For the exhibition this year, a huge display dedicated for the 1953 pilot was done, including: the BBC'S and the Awdry family's letters relating to the pilot, a production timeline of events and the BBC'S James photo on a big bulletin board with the Perspex Henry, Rew W Awdry's Henry and the original camera script for the broadcast also on display.
- Douglas got a new Duncan face, based on the one in the sixth illustration of Home At Last, from the 14th Railway Series “The Little Old Engine”.
