The Abbots Ripton Rail Accident from January 21st 1876, which inspired Henry's crash in the story "The Flying Kipper" in "Henry the Green Engine".
A possible second basis for "The Flying Kipper", the April 30th 1900 crash between a passenger train and stalled freight train, that killed driver Casey Jones.
Accident from August 8th 1952, when LMS Ivatt Class 4 No. 43142 fell off a turntable into a ditch, which inspired the story "Off the Rails" in "Gordon the Big Engine".
A similar incident to "Off the Rails" where a tender-engine fell into the Kirkby Loco Sheds Turntable Well in 1959, which would inspire "The Turntable Song".
Accident from September 1st 1951, when a locomotive at Brooklands Street, Batersea, rolled off a goods-siding turntable, crashing into the back of Mr. & Mrs. Lemon's house, which inspired the story "Thomas Comes to Breakfast" in "Branch Line Engines".
